Verification & Safety

Guide · Approximately 8-Minute Read

Learn what verification means on Link2Investors, how verification indicators work, and practical steps members can take to interact more safely.

Link2Investors is designed to help Entrepreneurs, Investors, and Service Professionals make meaningful business connections.

Trust is an important part of those relationships. Link2Investors therefore uses account, profile, and verification processes intended to provide members with additional information about the people they may choose to connect with.

Verification, however, does not replace your own judgment or due diligence.

1. Why Verification Matters

Entrepreneurs may be sharing information about businesses for which they have invested significant time and resources.

Investors may be evaluating businesses and investment opportunities involving substantial amounts of capital.

Service Professionals may be entering into paid business relationships with Entrepreneurs.

For these reasons, members should have reasonable information about the people with whom they are communicating.

Link2Investors’ verification features are intended to help increase transparency and confidence within the community.

2. Investor Trust & Verification

Investor Profiles may display verification indicators that allow Entrepreneurs to quickly see whether certain verification steps have been completed.

The two primary Investor verification indicators are:

✓ Identity Verified

✓ Background Check Completed

These indicators have different meanings and should not be interpreted as the same type of verification.

3. What “Identity Verified” Means

An Identity Verified indicator means that the Investor has successfully completed the identity-verification process required by Link2Investors.

The purpose is straightforward:

Is the individual creating the Investor Profile who they represent themselves to be?

Identity verification is intended to reduce the likelihood of fraudulent or fictitious Investor Profiles and provide Entrepreneurs with additional confidence regarding the identity of the individual with whom they are communicating.

Identity Verified Does NOT Mean:

It does not mean Link2Investors is representing that the individual:

  • Has a particular net worth.
  • Has a particular amount of money available to invest.
  • Is an accredited investor unless separately verified as such.
  • Will make an investment.
  • Is qualified for every investment opportunity.
  • Has been endorsed or recommended by Link2Investors.
  • Will successfully complete an investment transaction.

Identity verification verifies identity—not investment capacity or investment intent.

4. What “Background Check Completed” Means

Investors may be provided with an opportunity to complete a Background Check to further support trust within the Link2Investors community.

When the applicable Background Check process has been completed, the Investor Profile may display:

✓ Background Check Completed

The purpose of displaying this indicator is to let Entrepreneurs know that the Investor has completed the applicable Background Check process.

A Background Check should not be interpreted as a guarantee regarding an individual’s character, future conduct, financial resources, investment qualifications, or suitability for a particular transaction.

5. LinkedIn & Professional Information

Investors may also be asked to provide a LinkedIn Profile URL as part of their Investor Profile information.

Providing a LinkedIn Profile can provide additional professional information and may assist with evaluating or verifying an Investor’s professional identity and background.

Members should understand that information appearing on third-party websites or social networks is maintained outside of Link2Investors.

6. Additional Confidential Verification Information

An Investor may have an opportunity to voluntarily provide Link2Investors with additional information to help verify their:

  • Identity
  • Professional background
  • Business affiliation
  • Investment background
  • Legitimacy as an Investor

This information is optional.

Information specifically submitted through Link2Investors for confidential verification purposes will not be displayed on the Investor’s public Profile Page or shared with Entrepreneurs.

Investors should not enter passwords, Social Security numbers, bank account information, credit card information, or other unnecessary highly sensitive financial information into general-purpose profile or text fields.

7. Verification Is Not an Endorsement

This distinction is important.

A verification indicator means that a particular verification step has been completed.

It does not mean that Link2Investors:

  • Endorses the member.
  • Recommends investing with the member.
  • Recommends accepting an investment from the member.
  • Guarantees information supplied by the member beyond the scope of the applicable verification.
  • Guarantees the member’s financial resources.
  • Guarantees the success of a business relationship.
  • Guarantees an investment or financial return.

Members remain responsible for deciding with whom they communicate and conduct business.

8. Conduct Your Own Due Diligence

Verification can provide useful information, but it should be considered only one component of your decision-making process.

Before entering into a significant business or investment relationship, consider independently evaluating the information provided to you.

Depending upon the circumstances, appropriate due diligence could include reviewing:

  • Identity and professional background
  • Company information
  • Business registrations
  • Professional licenses
  • Business websites
  • LinkedIn or other professional profiles
  • Financial information
  • Business plans
  • Financial projections
  • Contracts
  • References
  • Investment documentation
  • Other information relevant to the proposed relationship

For significant legal, financial, tax, or investment matters, consider obtaining advice from appropriately qualified professionals.

9. Protect Sensitive Information

Getting to know a new business connection takes time.

Members should avoid unnecessarily providing highly sensitive information during an initial conversation.

Do not casually provide another member with:

  • Passwords
  • Social Security numbers
  • Complete bank account credentials
  • Credit or debit card information
  • Login credentials
  • Security codes
  • Other information that could allow unauthorized access to financial or personal accounts

Entrepreneurs should also exercise judgment before providing proprietary business information or trade secrets.

10. Be Alert for Potential Warning Signs

Members should use caution when another person:

  • Provides inconsistent information about their identity.
  • Refuses reasonable identity or business verification.
  • Pressures you to act immediately.
  • Guarantees investment returns.
  • Promises unusually high or risk-free returns.
  • Requests unusual or unexplained payments.
  • Requests highly sensitive personal or financial information without a legitimate reason.
  • Asks you to provide passwords or security codes.
  • Attempts to impersonate another person or organization.
  • Provides business credentials that cannot reasonably be confirmed.
  • Pressures you to avoid obtaining professional advice.
  • Makes claims that appear materially inconsistent with their Profile.

One warning sign does not necessarily establish fraud, but unusual behavior should be investigated before proceeding.

11. Be Careful With Investment Promises

All investments involve considerations that should be carefully evaluated.

Be cautious of statements such as:

“This investment is guaranteed.”

“You cannot lose money.”

“You must invest today.”

“The return is guaranteed.”

Entrepreneurs should also avoid making unsupported or misleading statements regarding their businesses or investment opportunities.

Accurate information helps create better relationships between Entrepreneurs and Investors.

12. Service Professional Safety

Verification and good judgment are also important when hiring Service Professionals.

Before hiring a professional, review available information about their:

  • Experience
  • Qualifications
  • Professional background
  • Services
  • Applicable licenses or credentials
  • Scope of work
  • Pricing
  • Deliverables

Make sure both parties understand the services being requested before work begins.

13. Keep Communications Professional

Link2Investors is a professional business community.

Members should use the platform for legitimate business and investment-related communication.

Do not use Link2Investors to:

  • Harass other members.
  • Misrepresent your identity.
  • Impersonate another person or company.
  • Make knowingly false business representations.
  • Engage in fraudulent activity.
  • Request inappropriate confidential information.
  • Send deceptive or misleading communications.

Professional behavior contributes to a stronger community for everyone.

14. Report Suspicious Activity

If you encounter behavior or information that you believe may be fraudulent, deceptive, inappropriate, or unsafe, discontinue the interaction and contact Link2Investors Support.

When reporting a concern, provide enough information for the Link2Investors team to understand what occurred.

This may include:

  • Member’s name
  • Profile information
  • Description of the concern
  • Relevant messages
  • Dates of communication
  • Other information that may assist with reviewing the matter

Do not continue a transaction simply because you have already invested time in the conversation.

15. A Simple Rule for Safer Connections

Before entering into a significant relationship through Link2Investors:

Verify → Communicate → Research → Conduct Due Diligence → Decide

Verification is the beginning of the trust process—not the end of it.
